Are you looking for an allergy clinic for food allergy testing in Brisbane?

We’ve written a series of articles for you to access below to help you learn more about your allergies and identify the best testing and management options for your situation.

food allergy testing brisbane Having unidentified allergies is like walking uphill with a 20kg weight on your back – it slows your body down and makes everyday living much harder. Identifying your food allergies with food allergy testing helps to reduce the load that allergies place on your body. Removing the foods you are allergic to can help your body function at its best and may reduce the symptoms you’ve lived with for many years.

Our Naturopaths work from Vibe Natural Health in Brisbane and can help you to identify your food allergies, using scientifically accurate testing methods. Allergies cannot be cured, but they can be identified with the right testing methods and managed to improve your health and quality of life.

There are 2 main types of food allergy – immediate allergy and slow onset allergy. We offer testing for both, but recommend that you also consult your GP or emergency department immediately if you are experiencing anaphylactic / fast onset allergy symptoms.

1. Fast Onset food allergy Immediate allergies are most common to present for the first time in children. Symptoms generally involve the skin – rashes or hives, airway – swollen lips, tongue, restricted breathing, or digestion – cramping or diarrhoea. 2. Slow onset food allergy ( food sensitivity) These allergies aren’t recognized as a “true allergy” like the fast onset allergies, however our experience has shown that testing for slow onset allergies often completes the missing pieces of the puzzle in identifying allergy symptom triggers.

The differences between fast onset and slow onset food allergies
Fast Onset Allergies (IgE) Slow Onset Allergies (IgA/ IgG)
Occurs instantly or within 1 -2 hours Occurs after a few hours or days
Involves 1 – 2 foods Can involve multiple foods
Onset occurs mainly in children First onset as a child or adult
Easily identified – you can often identify them yourself eg after eating peanuts or seafood – symptoms occurred obviously and quickly. Harder to identify as symptoms are slow onset and may have been from a combined effect eg wheat and milk (weetbix & milk for breakfast) and symptoms didn’t occur til the afternoon
Allergic foods need to be avoided for life After avoiding for 3-6 months some foods may be re-introduced.
